After looking, staring at the images, what can one say, but that is the very ugly face of mining in the Philippines.

So, indeed, you will be looking at the very ugly barren lands left behind or still being raped through surface mining in some parts of the country.

This post is not about to preach to high heavens for conscience to suddenly develop over the perpetrators of exploitation of natural resources at the expense of the volatile environment.

The government has all the laws, tools and personnel to oversee the operations. In the first place, its approval of projects unleashed the destruction of the environment.

But of course the local residents will eventually endure, as they are suffering now, the direct consequence once commercial mining operations end.

Pan or zoom ( use the + or – on bottom right ) each map and check out the neighboring areas to find traces of mine tailings, mine tailing ponds, body of waters with signs of contamination, etc.
