The Malacañan Palace on Tuesday confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte really has health condition, in fact a lot of issues with his spinal.
During the recent Wallace Business Forum dinner at the Palace, the POTP (President of the Philippines) said his doctor advised him to undergo surgery to cure a slipped disc he acquired from a motorcycle accident 10 years ago.
Recall that late in 2014, then Davao City Mayor Duterte said he is unfit to run for President due to his spinal injury that continues to give him backaches.
“So that if you guys see me always with a sad mode, I am actually pushing a nerve here to relieve the pain,” he said.
Aside from spinal problem and migraine, Mr. Duterte said he is also suffering from Beurger’s disease which he acquired from smoking because of nicotine that constricts the vessels.
“I have might as well tell you about my medical history. Don’t believe in cancer. What I have is really Buerger’s disease. It’s either filled with blood or there is nothing to pass it all there because it’s all constricted,” he said.
Buerger disease, also known in medical terms as ‘Thromboangiitis” obliterans, is a recurring progressive inflammation and thrombosis or clotting of small and medium arteries and veins of the hands and feet.
Medical research disclosed that the disease is strongly associated with use of tobacco products, like when one indulges in smoking, even with smokeless tobacco.
Persons suffering from this affliction can be noticed with the ‘recurrent acute and chronic inflammation and thrombosis of arteries and veins of the hands and feet.’
Sufferers are not stranger to the symptom, mostly recurrent pain in afflicted areas. So even while relaxing or resting, even while walking, the impairment of blood flow registers pain.
Some of the effects also include sensitivity to cold, color changes in the extremities. The color ranges from cyan (cyanotic) blue to reddish blue with the skin thinning and appearing shiny. Also observe the head’s hair growth diminish.
Near worst effect of Buerger disease complications in the extremities may include medical procedure for amputation of the afflicted legs or arms.
So, what more hidden illness, still undisclosed to the 16 million voter-supporters by the ‘Punisher from Davao?
At 71 and pushing beyond, President Duterte is expected to finish his term.
