DAET, Camarines Norte, May 13 — Not done yet naming, renaming places, streets, etc., honoring former President Corazon C. Aquino? On Monday, Secretary Rogelio Singson of the Department of Public Works and Highways disclosed that another one is coming up.
An 8.7 kilometer stretch of public road that runs from Mercedes, Daet and Talisay is being rushed for completion, converted to a national road and will carry the official name of President Cory Aquino Boulevard. It used to be a rundown road which caught the imagination of the government to support the eco-tourism industry of the province.
The highways project involved the improvement of the San Jose portion in the municipality of Talisay, the Bagasbas portion in Daet, the Mercedes-Bagasbas road, and the construction of two bridges. The project is now 58 percent complete.
The Cory boulevard is earmarked to also serve the area identified by the Department of Tourism as tourist destination.
