QUEZON CITY, 12 Dec. — Jeepney passengers in Metro Manila will now pay P1 less after the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board approved a fare rollback effective December 11, 2014.
The minimum fare of jeepneys in Metro Manila has been reduced from P8.50 to P7.50 for regular passengers and P6.00 for senior citizens and students because of their 20 percent discount.
LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the provisional decrease will cover the base fare of 4 kilometers.
The P1.50 charge per succeeding kilometer remains.
The P1 cut in jeepney fares is due to the continuous decline of diesel prices.
The current average price of diesel now is at P33 and a total rollback of P12 has been recorded since October.
Since the decrease is just provisional or temporary, the next hearing is set for Jan. 14 to hear the oppositors side and to examine by then the prevailing diesel prices and economic factors.
