COTABATO CITY, Feb. 26 – – Unidentified armed men burned down on Tuesday night the nipa hut of slain terrorist bomber Zulkipli Ibhir alias “Marwan” in Barangay Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
“Yes its true that Marwan’s house was burned,” Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) 7th Brigade commander Haramin said over a local radio station here.
Haramin, who sees over MILF operations in Mamasapano, said Marwan’s house was seen burning between 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
“The house is isolated and it was very dark so locals did not see the group responsible for the incident,” he said.
On Jan. 25, members of the elite Philippine National Police – Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) stormed the house of Marwan and subsequently killed the latter after a shootout.
The particular police operation is now the subject of Senate inquiry after 44 SAF members were killed in a misencounter with armed groups in the area, which included elements of the MILF and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), the armed wing of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM).
The BIFM headed by former MILF field commander Ameril Umbra Kato broke away from the MILF organization some three years ago due to ideological differences. (with Noel Pounzalan/PNA)
