Naga City — This premier Bicol city shares the limelight nationwide during the celebration of the 116th Philippine Independence day anniversary. President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday, graced the celebration. He delivered an Independence Day speech and acknowledged the 15 Bicol martyrs during the Philippine Revolution.
The president raised the flag at Plaza Quince Martirez where the prominent monument of the so-called Bicol martyrs are strategically located, just fronting the San Francisco church.
Strict security for the June 12 rites was jointly handled by the Army’s 9ID and the Philippine National Police in Bicol.
Aquino and his entourage stayed for about two hours between 7 AM and 9 AM, and departed immediately for the capital (Manila) for other activities.
Meanwhile, Paul Vincent Casilihan, Karapatan-Bicol spokesperson, lament that there could be no freedom yet for the Filipino people> He cited the hardship Bicolanos have been experiencing, including the problems brought about with the privatization of the three electric cooperatives, one each in Albay, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon.
