Military, local police ready to secure President Duterte on Second SONA.

Yes, securing President Redrigo Duterte on his second State of the Nation Address today is the primary focus of the Armed Forces of the Philippines this Monday, more than ever.

the Armed Forces of the Philippines announced it has more than sufficient troops to augment police units tasked to secure President Rodrigo Duterte’s second State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA) this Monday.

Sufficient military personnel augmenting localpolice units will be under the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region accoding to AFP public affair office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo.

An estimated 6,000 police officers are tasked to secure the Batasang Complex in Monday’s SONA activities which is expected to begin at 4 p.m.

The AFP contingent will be coming from the Army, Navy, and Air Force even as the military is still to detect any security threat for the SONA activities.

Meanwhile, the entire Quezon City Police District will also be on full alert as Duterte delivers his second SONA.

These forces are tasked to secure Batasan Hills.

Security authorities estimate crowd to balloon up to 20,000 until the main event.

Quezon City Police District Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said Sunday the estimate is 2,000 lower than 8,000 last year.

The police have given permission for rallyists for their activities near the Batasang Complex, stressing that no container vans and barbed wires were deployed in the area.

Police officers on SONA duties will not carry shields, batons or weapons.

The crowd control equipments will be placed in police trucks and vehicles and will be used only for emergencies. (PNA report)
