Sandiganbayan orders suspension of Pangasinan 5th District Congressman Amado Espino

Newly elected and first term congressman Amado Espino of the fifth district of Pangasinan was given a preventive suspension order by the Sandiganbayan. Espino was charged for his alleged involvement in illegal black sand mining operations in Lingayen Gulf in 2011. Newly elected and first term congressman Amado Espino of the fifth district of Pangasinan was given a preventive suspension order by the Sandiganbayan.

On Wednesday the graft court ordered the suspension for 90 days of the former Pangasinan governor who held the post for nine years from 2007 up to 2016 or three terns.

The court ordered Espino to cease and desist from further performing or exercising his functions, duties and privileges for a period of 90 days.

Espino was charged for his alleged involvement in illegal black sand mining operations in Lingayen Gulf in 2011.

Due to extraction activities done by an unqualified contractor, the government lost P10.7 million with the export of the extracted minerals to China, according to the Ombudsman.

The Sandiganbayan has furnished a copy of the resolution to Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for the implementation of the suspension order.

Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas told reporters Thursday the House of Representatives will take action on the suspension of Espino by the graft court.

The congressman from Ilocos Norte chairs the rules committee which will act on the resolution five days from receipt of the order.

Espino is the father of newly elected Pangasinan governor Amado I. Espino III.

Espino claims the graft charges filed against him as false and politically-motivated.

Earleir, the congressman’s name was tagged by President Duterte with alleged link to illegal drugs.

Already, Espino denied the disclosure and explained his side in a meeting with the president.
