Alleged drug trafficker and coddler Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr. of Albuera town, Leyte province has surrendered to police authorities.

The mayor was the subject of President Rodrigo Duterte’s ultimatum on Monday, ordering him to surrender within 24 hours or ultimately confront with the “shoot on sight” directive to the police. Espinosa’s picture was posted as wanted on the Facebook page of the newly created 911 and 888 emergency hotlines of the PNP.

The office of Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella announced on Tuesday through text to the MalacaƱang media that Espinosa Sr. has surrendered but his son, Kerwin, remains at large.

Espinosa is now under custody of Philippine National Police Chief Director General Rolando “Bato” de la Rosa.

Last Monday, Abella announced the president demanded the surrender within 24 hours of the father and son on the grounds of drug trafficking and coddling.

The Albuera mayor was on leave since about two weeks ago, according to a report.

Much earlier, it was reported that Espinosa, Sr’s body guards and his three employees were arrested during a drug buy-bust operation Thursday of last week, July 28, at the tennis court near the residence of the mayor and that of his son, both at Sitio Tinago, in Barangay Benoldo, Albuera.

The police operation confiscated P1.9 million worth of suspected shabu from Jose Antipuesto, the mayor’s caretaker of fighting cocks.
