Aircraft operator, designer, manufacturer, joins Fly Dubai air crash investigation

MOSCOW, March 19 – A commission was set up by the Interstate Aviation Committee to investigate the crash of the FlyDubai Boeing in Rostov-on-Don in Russia that killed 62 people.

The committee has proceeded with the investigation into the deadly crash of the FlyDubai Boeing 737-800 in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don; it will soon be joined by experts from the United Arab Emirates, the United States and France, IAC said in a statement.

“The commission will soon be joined by experts from the United Arab Emirates (the flag state and aircraft operator), the United States (the state of design and manufacturer) and France (the aircraft engine designer),” the IAC statement said.

The IAC has set up a commission to investigate the causes of the crash, with its members already sent to the crash site. The commission is headed by IAC Executive Director Viktor Sorochenko.

The Boeing 737-800 plane from Dubai crashed at about 03:50 Moscow time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday after it missed the runway as it attempted to land for second time. Poor weather conditions and human error were named to be potential causes of the accident. A total of 62 people — 55 passengers and 7 crew members — died in the tragedy. (Sputnik)

Fatalities include foreign nationals

There were 6 foreign citizens on board the Boeing aircraft that crashed in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don, a source in Russian emergency services told TASS on Saturday.

“The latest reports, based on passengers’ ID information, on board were 16 citizens of foreign countries, including 7 people from Ukraine, two from Spain and two more from India, one from Cyprus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Columbia, Seychelles Islands,” the source said, adding out of the 46 Russian nationals 42 come from the Rostov region, two from Volgograd region, one from Krasnodar region and one from Komi.

According to the prosecutor’s office of Russia’s Rostov region, the crew captain of Boeing 737-800, that crashed in Rostov-on-Don in south of Russia on Saturday, was a citizen of Cyprus.

The Consulate General of Cyprus in Krasnodar has confirmed that the captain of the aircraft was a Cyprus national.

An official with the consulate said that the office is in constant contact with the Russian Foreign Ministry. The captain was a Cypriot born in 1978, the official said.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, eight Ukrainian citizens are among the victims of the tragedy. The Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry has confirmed a citizen of Kyrgyzstan was killed in the crash.

On Saturday at 3:42 MSK, Boeing 737-800 of FlyDubai Airlines (flight 981 FZ from Dubai) crashed at the airport of Rostov-on-Don during the second landing in difficult weather conditions (strong side wind and rain). There were 62 people on board. According to preliminary data, no one survived. (TASS)
