Mindoro’s Puerto Galera hosts 11th World Congress on Most Beautiful Bays

The tourist town of Puerto Galera of Mindoro Oriental hosts the 11th World Congress on ‘Most Beautiful Bays’ slated on February 1 to 6. It is one of the major events under the mantle of Visit the Philippines Again 2016 campaign of the Department of Tourism.

This early, 18 countries signified interest in participation according to founder and President of Puerto Galera Most Beautiful Bay, Inc. Hubert d’Aboville. The 10th congress was hosted by Yeosu City of South Korea last Oct. 16 to 20, 2014 with 14 countries.

Puerto Galera is in the northwestern part of the province, located at the southwestern end of the Isla Verde Passage, about 130 kilometers (81 mi) south of Manila. The beach town is a tourist destination for its pocket beaches, snorkeling and diverse coral reef and scuba diving spots in Asia.

The congress is set to discuss how member countries can adapt to climate change and an opportunity to promote the Philippines as a quality tourist destination.

Puerto Galera is in the northwestern part of the province, located at the southwestern end of the Isla Verde Passage, about 130 kilometers (81 mi) south of Manila. The beach town is a tourist destination for its pocket beaches, snorkeling and diverse coral reef and scuba diving spots in Asia.

In 2005 the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recognized the town as part of the Most Beuatiful Bays in thw World. Much earlier in 1973, the town was designated Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1973.

Among the beaches in Puerto Galera are Sabang Beach and White Beach, which have an active nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants.

It has a population of 32,521 according to 2010 official census. Mindoro Oriental is in Region 4-B or MIMAROPA, the grouping of island provinces composed of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
