After typhoon ‘Nona,’ four provinces still in blackout

After the passage of Typhoon ‘Nona,’ still four provinces are waiting for the full power restoration.

On Wednesday, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said Aurora, Northern Samar, Nueva Ecija and Sorsogon still have blackouts.

Power was lost in Aurora on Thursday, affecting the towns of Dingalan, San Luis, Maria, Baler and Dipaculao.

In Northern Samar the affected areas include Allen, Bobon, Catarman, Catubig, Gamay, Lao-ang, Las Navas, Lavezares, Lope de Vega, Mondragon, Palapag, Pambuhan, Rosario, San Isidro, San Jose, San Roque and Victoria.

Power outages were also experienced in the towns of Cabiao, Gapan, Jaen, San Antonio and San Isidro, all in Nueva Ecija.

In Sorsogon, the areas that are yet to be re-energized include Bulan, Matnog, Sta. Magdalena, Irosin, Bulusan, Juban, Casiguran, Magallanes, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Barcelona, Pilar, Castilla, Donsol and Bacon.

The identified areas in Northern Samar and Sorsogon lost power on Monday.

Meanwhile, NGCP reported it has restored power in Batangas Thursday. The areas are the municipalities of Cuenca and Alitagtag, along with industrial customers such as La Farge, Pilipinas Shell, Keppel.

Other affected lines are: 230-kV Daraga-Bacman line 1 , 350-kV line Allen-Ormoc and 350-kV Naga-Sta. Magdalena.

NGCP pointed out it “has mobilized its line crews to conduct aerial and ground patrols to inspect and assess the impact of the typhoon to its operations and facilities.”

The grid operator assured it has implemented preparations to minimize the impact of the typhoon on its operations and facilities.

The precautions include ensuring supply of hardware materials to repair damaged facilities and positioning of line crews in strategic areas. (PNA / By Juzel L. Danganan)
