Putin, Widodo skips APEC meet, will attend G20 summit in Turkey

The Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Joko Widodo will attend the G20 summit in Anatalya, Turkey on November 15 to 16 but both will skip the APEC event in Manila slated for November 18 TO 19.

At the G20 summit Putin will meet with International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagard according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday.

G20 comprises the world’s largest developed and emerging economies, accounting for two-thirds of the world’s population and representing 85 percent of global GDP. Th summit will discuss challenges facing the global economy, as well as ways to strengthen economic resilience and promote job creation for strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

The Jakarta Post on Thursday reported that Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla will represent President Widodo in the APEC Summit. The trade minister of Indonesia will also be attending the ministerial meeting before the leaders’ summit according to Foreign Afffairs Undersecretary Laura del Rosario in a news briefing at the World Trade Center on thrusday.

Meanwhile, the Russian delegation coming to Manila will instead be led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Right after the APEC meeting, the member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation’s will meet in Kuala Lumpur for an ASEAN summit.
