The project was funded through the donation of $300,000 US dollars (P14-M) by the Nigerian government, with the first 77 relocated families earmarked as part of beneficiaries.

“This donation is a gift and an offer of friendship from the people of Nigeria to the Filipino people,” Amb. Tekune said.

The International Organization for Migration was also involved in the completion of the project.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman acknowledged the assistance of the Nigerian government.

“We thank the Nigerian people for the friendship and the solidarity that they have provided. …. This was used for the tanks and water filtration.” Soliman said.

The DSWD chief also announced that when all the houses in the area will be ready for occupancy, the bunkhouses and other transitional shelters will be closed.

It must be recalled on August 19, 2015 Ambassador Buba Tekune, Charge d’Affaires of the Federal Government of Nigeria turned over to Department of Social Welfare and Development a donation amounting US$300,000.00 (equivalent to PH14,000,000.00) and housing/construction materials in a turnover ceremony held at the DSWD.
