MANILA, April 30 — After the ASEAN presidential trip to Kuala Lumpur, President Benigno S. Aquino III will cross the Pacific with a working visit in Chicago and state visit of Canada. The president is expected to meet with Filipino communities in the second week of May.
President Aquino will have a one-day visit in Chicago on May 6 for a meeting with the Filipino community as well as potential investors before traveling to Canada from May 7 to 9. In Canada, the president will meet with Governor General David Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Andrelita Austria, Canada is the Philippines’ 21st top trading partner, saying that “from January to November 2014, our exports were at over $500 million and imports are $284 million.” Canada is considered the 14th source of development assistance and sixth top visitor market of the country.
