Laguna native Filipino-American get 25 years for terrorism

Filipino-American Ralph Kenneth de leon of Ontario, California was sentenced to 25 years in the slammer by a U. S. Federal Court on February 23.

Federal Judge Virginia A. Philips handed down the sentence on the 26 year old De Leon for “conspiring to provide material support to terrorists.”

At the trial which lasted for seven weeks, the jury found De Leon guilty to provide material support to terrorists, conspiring to commit murder, kidnapping or maiming overseas, and conspiracy to murder officers and employees of the United States.

The U.S. Probation Office will supervise the defendant after his release from prison, for the rest of his life.

The judge also ordered the convict to undergo drug treatment while on custody. (During his trial, De Leon was described by his attorney as “frequent marijuana user who often hung out at hookah bars where clients smoke sweet tobacco from a water pipe.)

On November 16, 2012, De Leon was arrested by a joint terrorist task force from FBI and arrested him with two others aborting their planned departure for Istanbul where they were alleged to join al-Qaeda and the Taliban for training.

De Leon is known by his “other names” as Rafiq Abdul Raheem and Ya Seen when converted to Islam faith in about 2010. He came to the United States of America in 2003 from Laguna province.
