Fil-Am Snapchat co-founder is newest dollar billionaire

Filipino-American Robert “Bobby” Murphy is listed by Forbes as one of the newest billionaires for 2015. He is listed to have a net worth of US $1.5 billion, making him the second youngest dollar billionaire. He owns an estimated 13 per cent in Snapchat.

Murphy is currently the chief technology officer of Snapchat Inc., with task to lead development team and hire new programmers for the application development.

The young billionaire, 26, was born 1989. His mother immigrated to the United States from the Philippines, raised him in Berkeley, California. He completed Bachelor of Science in Mathematical and Computation Science from Stanford University.

He is joined in the company with co-founder fraternity brother Evan Spiegel and Reggie Brown.

Snapchat is a photo messaging application the team developed, with former Stanford University students. With the application, users can take photos, record videos, add text and drawings, and send them to a controlled list of recipients. These sent photographs and videos are known as “Snaps”. Users set a time limit for how long recipients can view their Snaps, after which they will be hidden from the recipient’s device and deleted from Snapchat’s servers.

According to Snapchat in May 2014, the app’s users were sending 700 million photos and videos per day, while Snapchat Stories content was being viewed 500 million times per day. The company has a valuation of $20 billion. (with notes from Wikipedia)
