Metro road projects to ease traffic will cause gridlocks during construction

MANILA, Feb. 16 – The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) will start in April the construction of another major infrastructure project aimed at easing the flow of traffic in Metro Manila. Commuters are aware that once the project construction begins, it ushers in major traffic gridlocks, too.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said he was informed by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson that the Gil Puyat Ave.-Makati Ave.-Paseo de Roxas underpass project in Makati City will begin in April.

”The project worth at least PhP1.27-billion, is part of the major infrastructure undertaking of the government to solve the traffic congestion,” Coloma said.

He added that the project is expected to be finished by 2017, one year after the term of President Benigno Aquino III.

Other infra projects approved by the President and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board in October last year are three grade-separated interchanges in Quezon City.

These will be constructed along EDSA-North Ave.-West Ave.-Mindanao Ave.; Circumferential Road 5-Green Meadow-Calle Industria–Eastwood; and EDSA-Roosevelt Ave.-Congressional Ave. (PNA)
