LEGAZPI CITY, Feb. 21 — A select group of Bicol development projects of the Philippine government receives P644 million funding from the World Bank (WB).
At least six major projects WB funds, worth over P644 million in three Bicol provinces that are expected to directly benefit some 65,000 persons or 13,228 households working in agriculture-based commodities such as coconut, pili, abaca, blue crab, seaweeds, livestock, pineapple, cacao, “malunggay” and “gabi.”
WB programs team leader in the Philippies Carolina Figueroa-Geron said the projects are in Camarines Sur, Albay and Camarines Norte.
The projects to be funded in Camarines Sur are the rehabilitation of San Isidro to Pag-Oring Nuevo road in Libmanan costing P44.7 million; upgrading of Cuco-Bagong Silang farm-to-market road in Pasacao town costing P50.674 million; and upgrading of Managle-Caima farm-to-market road worth Php131.27 million in Sipocot town.
In Albay, the projects are the P7.68 million Albay coco geonets manufacturing enterprise in Libon and P197.44 million rehabilitation and improvement of the Pistola-Tablon road with three bridges in Oas.
The concreting of Pinagwarasan-Lanot road in Basud town in Camarines Norte is also included.
These projects under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) will benefit farmers and agriculture workers in the localities in Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte.
Geron said the projects are being undertaken through the Department of Agriculture (DA). The concerned local government units are required to chip in at least 10 percent of the project cost as equity.
