Law enforcers raid 2 suspected shabu labs in Masbate

MASBATE CITY, Feb. 15 -– The combined operatives of law enforcement groups arrested several persons in separate raids at suspected shabu laboratories in two villages in this city on Saturday morning.

Arrested at the residential compound of former mayor Bernardito Abapo of Milagros, Masbate, in Sitio Cagba, Barangay Tugbo, were his son Bong and daughter Lovely, 2nd District board member of Masbate.

A second raiding team swooped down at the Secret Garden Resort in Barangay Nursery, this city, owned by Cherry boy Abapo, son of former mayor Cherry Abapo of San Fernando, Masbate.

The raiding composite teams cane from the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Force, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bicol, Regional Intelligence Division-Police Regional Office 5, 5th Regional Public Safety Battalion, Masbate Provincial Public Safety Company and Masbate City Police Office.

The officers were armed with search warrants issued by Judge Fernando T. Sagun, Executive Judge, Regional Trial Court Branch 78, Quezon City.

PNP anti-illegal drug spokesman Senior Supt. Roque Merdegia Jr. said the government operatives made two raids in two target where there were suspected materials in making shabu.

Police Regional Office 5 said that aside from Bong, Lovely and Cherry Boy Jr., all surnamed Abapo, also arrested were Lester Seminiano Abapo, barangay captain of F. Magallanes; Fernando S. Bravante, an employee of the 2nd District of Masbate, Anton D. Abella, Isagani Arnel V. Irenea and PO1 Aaron V. Abapo, presently assigned at the Masbate Public Safety Company detailed at the supply Ssction of the Masbate PPO.

The police officer was not present during the raid but is now under the custody of the MPPO.

Seized were substantial volume of Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemical used in the manufacture of dangerous drugs, caliber .40 Kimber, caliber .45 and one caliber 22 Magnum with 10 live ammunition, the report said.

The suspects are now facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Anti-Drug Law. (Condensed from PNA report/ Norman B. Tamar)
