NPA rebels burn construction equipment of Masbate contractor

MASBATE CITY, Masbate, Feb. 14 — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels burned the truck and a road roller of an engineer-contractor at the project site in Barangay Bagahanglad, San Jacinto, Masbate on early Wednesday afternoon for allegedly not paying revolutionary tax,

The incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. after the rebels failed to see Engr. John Mark Dejuno, the owner of the burned equipment.

Earlier, the rebels intercepted company driver Ninog Delos Santos who was walking in the area and asked him about the whereabouts of his employer.

Not finding Dejuno, the suspects boarded the truck and asked Delos Santos to come with them to Sitio Cawa-Cawa where the road roller was positioned.

In Cawa-cawa the rebels poured gasoline on the truck and the road roller and left the area afterwards.

Meanwhile, police officials are looking into the shooting of two guards of a security agency detailed at Filminera Resources Corp. Masbate Gold Project while on duty at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Panique, Aroroy, Masbate.

The fatalities were identified as Kenneth Anthony Ferreras, 26 and married, and Andres Villafuerte, 22 and single, both of Aroroy.

The police report said the suspect appeared and aimed a .45-caliber pistol at the victims, hitting them on their heads and bodies and fled the crime scene.
