Pope Francis encounter with youth in UST open to public

MANILA, Jan. 14 — “Open to the public.” According to Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P. rector of the Pontifical University, the activities of Pope Francis during his visit to the University of Santo Tomas on Jan. 18 will be “open to the public” at designated areas in the campus.

Fr. Dagohoy clarified that no tickets would be sold or distributed for the Pope’s UST visit and the public can enter the UST campus in Sampaloc, Manila through designated gates.

The gates assigned for the public are 10 and 11 which will open at 4 a.m.

Youth delegates who are participants in the Encounter with the Holy Father will occupy the Football Field and Gates 5 and 6 have been designated for them.

Member of the Thomasian community may enter the designated Gates 1, 2, 3 and 14.

The following streets are closed to vehicular traffic:From Welcome Rotonda to Morayta St; from Dimasalang to Nagtahan Bridge; from Dapitan Sports Complex to Lacson St.; from the stretch of Piy Margal to Dos Castillas St.; and the stretch of P. Noval from Dapitan St. to Espana Blvd.

Meanwhile, Associate Prof. Giovanna Fontanilla, director of the UST Office of Public Affairs, said that there will be a pre-program for the youth as early as 6:30 a.m., which will include the praying of the Holy Rosary and practicing of songs and cheers for the Pope.

Upon arrival of Pope Francis at the UST grandstand at around 10:30 a.m., there will be an enthronement of the Holy Cross and a liturgical celebration that will include responsorial psalms and gospel reading.

It will be followed by testimonies from three youth representatives — an out-of-school youth, a college student, and a typhoon “Yolanda” relief volunteer.

Afterward, the Pope will deliver a message to the youth.

At least seven young persons will lead prayers and intercessions, which will be said in different dialects.

Pope Francis will also lead the Angelus to cap the event in UST. (PNA)
