Some Manila roads closes for vehicle traffic due to Pope Francis itinerary.

MANILA, Jan. 18 — On Day 4 of the Apostolic visit of Pope Francis in the country, some roads in Manila will be closed Sunday as activities will center at the Univesity of Santo Tomas and the celebration of the Holy Mass at the Rizal Park.

The Philippine National Police said the principal route from Apostolic Nunciature to UST of the papal convoy will be closed to traffic starting at 6:30 a.m. onwards.

The roads that are to be closed include: Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Nagtahan, A.H. Lacson Avenue, Quezon Blvd., Lerma and España.

Roads will remain closed during the duration of the activity until the arrival of the Pope back to Apostolic Nunciature. The alternate routes may be opened from the time of arrival at UST until one hour prior to departure to Apostolic Nunciature.

All parked vehicles along the ceremonial routes will be towed as PNP advised motorists going to UST from Quezon City should take Quezon Avenue.

All vehicles going to UST from Tondo shall take Quezon Blvd (Quiapo). Drop-off point: Alfonso Mendoza cor. Laon Laan parking area: A. Mendoza Drop-off Point: Morayta cor. Espana. Parking Area: C.M Recto.

All vehicles coming from north take Dimasalang. Drop-off Point: Dimasalang corner Laon Laan

PNP also said the public attending the Holy Mass on Sunday are advised some roads will be closed at 6 a.m. to give way for the travel of papal convoy from Apostolic Nunciature to Quirino Grandstand:

The Alternate Roads

Taft Ave. left turn to Quirino Ave, Right turn to Roxas Blvd. Right turn to Kalaw Ave., Left turn to Maria Orosa St. left to P. Burgos, left to Roxas Blvd. Right turn to South Drive to Ocean Park entrance going to the back of Quirino Grandstand

Portions of Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Blvd., Kalaw Ave., Maria Orosa St., and P. Burgos as well as United Nations Ave.

Roads will remain closed during the duration of the activity until the arrival of the Pope back to Apostolic Nunciature. All parked vehicles along the ceremonial routes will be towed.

PNP advised the motorist the following routes headed towards the Quirino Granstand.

Vehicles of attendees coming from the south may use the drop off point at the corner of Roxas Blvd and Quirino Avenue and walk their way to the venue. Vehicles of attendees coming from the north may use the drop off point at the Anda Circle and walk their way to the venue.

Vehicles of attendees coming from the east shall not be allowed beyond UN Ave corner San Marcelino and Ayala corner San Marcelino. Vehicles of attendees from Quiapo and Recto areas shall not be allowed to cross the Jones, McArthur and Quezon Bridges.

PNP also said that attendees are encouraged to use the LRT UN Station and walk their way to Luneta.

It added attendees may start entering the Mass area at around 6 a.m. and gates will be closed at 2:30 p.m. Gates are located along M. Orosa only.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to take the following alternate routes:

Along Taft Avenue northbound, turn right at Vito Cruz, turn left at Arellano Avenue, left at Estrada, turn right at Singalong, right at Esguerra, turn left at Angel Linao, to Gen. Luna, turn right at Romualdez St., straight to N. Lopez, to destination.

Along Quezon Blvd. southbound, turn left at C. Palanca, turn right at P.Casal, straight to Ayala Blvd., turn left at San Marcelino St., to destination.

Along R-10 eastbound, take service road then turn left at C. M. Recto turn left at Legarda, turn right at Nagtahan, to Pres. Quirino Avenue, to destination.

Along Roxas Blvd. northbound, turn right at Vito Cruz, right at Arellano, turn left at Zobel Roxas, left at Pres. Osmeña Highway, turn right at Pres. Quirino Avenue, to Nagtahan, turn left at Legarda, turn right to C. M. Recto, to destination. (with PNA report by Christopher Lloyd T. Caliwan)
