PILI, Camarines Sur, Jan. 25 -– Three Bicolano advocates of natural farming are now part of the government’s policy-making body that provides direction and general guidelines for the implementation of the country’s national organic agriculture program.

Dr. Georgina Bordado, Mariano Racelis and Fr. Ian Trillanes were inducted by Department of Agriculture into the National Organic Agriculture Board as representatives from the academe, ordinary farmers and non-government organizations involved in sustainable farming, respectively.

Bordado is president of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, DA’s partner in the implementation and advocacy of organic farming in the region while Racelis is president of the Rinconada Movement for Environment and Sustainable Agriculture who would represent small farmers in Luzon.

Trillanes is from the Caritas Diocese of Libmanan and parish priest of St. Peter the Baptist Church in Lupi, Camarines Sur.

Their entry into the NOAB, according to DA Regional Executive Director Abelardo Bragas, ensures the participation of the sectors they represent as well as of the general public as consultative mechanisms of the NOAP.

They will also help in the formulation of guidelines in the implementation of multi-sectoral monitoring protocols to track the promotion and delivery of organic agriculture support services and its adoption by the local chief executives at the provincial and city and municipal levels, Bragas said.
