2 Dead, 42 wounded in Zamboanga City bomb explosion

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 24 — The number of fatalities in Friday afternoon’s powerful bomb explosion here have climbed to two while those wounded to 47.

This came about as another victim expired Friday night while undergoing treatment at a hospital in this city.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, identified the second fatality as Dennis Valente, who was earlier listed in critical condition.

The first fatality was Reynaldo Tan, 38, who expired at the hospital several minutes after the bomb explosion.

Agbulos, along with City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Roxas, have been tasked by Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar to go around the hospitals to determine what assistance the local government can extend to the victims.

Agbulos said that 10 of the 47 injured victims remain in the hospitals as of Saturday morning.

The bomb, which exploded around 3:15 p.m. Friday, was placed on a car parked in front of a disco pub located across the bus terminal in Barangay Guiwan.

The explosion also destroyed a car and a tricycle as well as shattered the window glasses of several business establishments. (PNA/ Teofilo P. Garcia Jr.)
