Storm signal 2, 1 in 28 areas in Southern Philippines

MANILA, Dec. 29 –- Twenty-eight areas in Visayas and Mindanao are now under public storm warning signals number 2 and 1 as tropical storm “Seniang” has maintained its strength and is now moving towards Agusan Del Norte, according to latest weather update of PAGASA on Monday.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather agency PAGASA said under Signal No 2 were Bohol, Siquijor, Southern Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern part of Negros Occidental in Visayas; Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island, Agusan del norte, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, and Agusan del Sur in Mindanao.

Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camotes island, rest of Cebu, rest of Negros Occidental, Guimaras in Visayas; Northern part of Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Compostella Valley, and Dinagat province in Mindanao.

These areas will have moderate to heavy rains with occasional gusty winds. Residents in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

PAGASA added that residents in low lying and mountainous areas of the provinces with PSWS#2 and PSWS#1 especially Caraga Region as well as over the rest of Visayas and of Mindanao are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Ocean waves may reach up to 5 meters.

The estimated rainfall amount is from 15–30 mm per hour (heavy-intense) within the 300 km diameter of the tropical storm.

As of 10 a.m. the center of tropical storm “Seniang” was estimated based on all available data at 33 km Northeast of Butuan City or 30 km East of Cabadbaran City (9.1°N, 125.8°E) and still packed with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It forecast to move West Northwest at 11 kph.

Tropical storm Seniang is forecast to be in vicinity of Negros Oriental by Tuesday morning. By Wednesday morning, “Seniang” is expected to be at 160 km East of Puerto Princesa City.
