DOLE urge employers to pay workers 13th month pay

The Department of Labor and Employment is urging all the country’s private employers to pay workers the 13th month pay, following the Labor Code of the Philippines, saying that the 13th month pay is a general labor standard that it (DOLE) does not compromise as to its payment. Labor secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said, “the 13th month pay must be paid on or before December 24 of every year. This year, the 24th of December falls on a Wednesday, so employers may pay their workers the 13th month benefit on this day, but I urge them to pay earlier to avoid the rush.”

Malacanang: President Aquino was not meddling

Reacting om a statement attributed to Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, Malacanang said that President Benigno S. Aquino III was merely expressing his views and was not meddling in the Senate investigation on the alleged irregularities committed by Vice President Jejomar Binay while he was mayor of Makati City.

PH pushes for binding code of conduct for South China Sea

The Philippines is pushing for legally binding code of conduct for South China Sea. President Benigno S. Aquino III has called on fellow Asean leaders to continue negotiations with China on the forging of a legally binding code of conduct in the South China Sea, amid tensions over territorial claims in the region.

Smuggling raps filed against rice trader, customs brokers

The Bureau of Customs filed smuggling-related complaints against the owner of Medaglia De Oro Trading and nine licensed customs brokers for importing rice without the required import permit from the National Food Authority. Separate complaints were against Emmanuel Santos, owner and proprietor of Medaglia De Oro, along with the firm’s customs brokers: Denise Kathryn Rosaroso, Raquel Sildora Cabasag, Emilio Chio, Myrene Noynay Sollano, Gemma Garcia, Melvin Isagan, John Kevin Cisneros, Eduardo Borje III, Kenneth Quial, customs brokers Rosemarie Sangalang Arciaga And Baltazar Ramirez.
