Second Ilocos wind farm starts power generation

The province of Ilocos Norte is becoming more famous not only of its natural resources and tourist destinations but more of environmental friendly and cost efficient wind farms.

On Wednesday November 19th, the 81-MW wind power project was inaugurated in Barangay Caparispisan of Pagudpud town.

The event was witnessed by Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and governor Imee Marcos during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the initial operation of the facility.

The power farm with 27 units of wind turbines was built on a 625 hectare of the town at a cost of $220 million. It was developed by Northern Luzon Renewable Energy Corporation.

The finished project was commissioned for operation by the Energy Regulatory Commision (ERC) on November 11, 2014 based on the nomination of the Department of Energy.

Meanwhile, residents in Barangays Malasin, Abaca and Dadaur are protesting that transmission lines were alleged to be constructed over properties without owner’s consent.
