Today, August 18th, the second death anniversary of former local government secretary and Naga city mayor Jesse Robredo is a non-working holiday, if the wishes of the current local leadership and council is to be granted.

Mayor John Bongat and congresswoman Leni G. Robredo including friends, believers and ordinary Naguenos will bike for peace and take the tsinelas walk from the JMR Coliseum to Eternal Gardens.

Other activities include a Eucharistic mass at the memorial park followed by the wreathlaying at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.

A groundbreaking for the proposed Robredo Museum at the city civic center follows with unveiling of the museum perspective as the highlight with a community reception by 9 A.M.

At 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon the Robredo exhibit opens at the SM City coupled with an essay writing tilt at 4:00 p.m.

The celebration will be capped by a basketball match at the coliseum at 5:00 p.m.

It must be recalled that the city council passed an ordinance in 2012 declaring August 18, 2013 as Jesse Robredo day but the current leadership prefers the day declared as non-working to give all sectors an opportunity in participating on activities.

This year the council passed a resolution exhorting Malacanang to declare August 18th of every year a non-working day in the city. Malacanang has no response yet as of this posting.
