SORSOGON CITY – After the storm that hit the Bicol region comes the backlash.

Sorsogon provincial officials accuses the Albay leadership of allegedly seeming and deliberate exaggeration and padding on estimated disaster report on the value of devastation wrought by Typhoon Glenda.

Of the six Bicol provinces, Albay claimed to have suffered P4.274 billion in damages in agriculture, housing and other sectors, as released by the office of the governor.

But a local news source (not the Cbanga360- Bicol Street Journal) reported that some Sorsogon officials said “Albay is planning to run away with the biggest share of the calamity fund by bloating its disaster report.”

The same Sorsogon officials claim that the province’s agriculture sector was worst hit by the typhoon, adding that even its namesake and capital city sustained P350 million damages per initial disaster reports.

Unfortunately, the report did not disclose the complaining officials but just the same, went on to chide Albay governor Joey Salceda for bloating disaster reports just to get the lion share of calamaity fund and possible international aid.

It has been a practice to bloat reports for the purpose of getting bigger disaster rehabilitation programs which is strongly influenced by politics. The trick works toward getting bigger allocation in the calamity appropriation.

Get blown away as the update of damage by Typhoon Glenda in Albay alone as of this posting is now P7.6 billion. That is the official statement, but not yet the final amount as it will go up in the days to come as reports get collated. Hu hummm.
