No lesser than 3,000 estimated former victims of Marcos-era martial law rule are seen to file their compensation suits beginning Monday in Legazpi city.

Presumed victims of human rights violations, the claimants will come from Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate and Albay or from all provinces that comprises the region.

Karapatan-Bicol spokesperson Vince Casilihan encourages all victims to file their compensation suits. He assured those who will come forward will be assisted by Karapatan.

The compensation is provided in the Human Rights Victims Reparation and Recognition Act of 2013 passed last year. A total of P10 billion from the alleged ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family will be used to pay the victims.

The downside of this campaign is that all victims or their legal heirs or authorized representative has to personally file and prove their claim.

Claimants can file the paperworks at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Lagazpi until Nov. 10, 2014. (From PNA report)
