A new grouping of Bicol provinces into a local tourism industry development alliance is finally taking shape.
The new group, which will be referred to as “Triple C,” include the provinces of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte and Catanduanes. It will comprise a tourism development area.
The two sub-tourism areas under the alliance are the Caramoan-Catanduanes tourism link (CCTL) covering the town of Caramoan in Camarines Sur and Catanduanes province. The Camarines tourism circuit (CTC) will cover the rest of Camarines Sur and the whole of Camarines Norte, according to tourism regional director Maria Ong-Ravanilla.
Caramoan peninsula offers the exotic islets serving as a major ecotourism destination. The town of Caramoan is home to Gota Village Resort, a destination for tourists from France and other European countries. It was included among the 14 best tourism destinations in the world by Top Resa 2008 in Paris. Also adjudged ecotourism destination of the year in the 2009 edition of Nature, one of France’s biggest travel fairs.
The province of Catanduanes is a promising travel destination due to its ecotourism wonders, dive sites and sea surfing venues.
Camarines Sur has been a long-time tourist destination with Camarines Watersports Complex (CWC) and Peñafrancia Festival of Naga City. Camarines Norte is famous for its Bagasbas Beach and Calaguas Islands with long stretch of pristine beaches with white powdery sand.
The tourism alliance will be formalized through the signing of a memorandum of agreement by the three governors after a consultative conference hosted by the Catanduanes provincial government in Virac on May 26-27.
The MOA will ensure the commitment of each province that will address the obstacles challenging the tourism development that include the uncompetitive tourist destinations and products, limited flights and capacity of domestic transportation, poor infrastructure, limited market access and weak public sector tourism governance and human resources development policies and practices.
Apart from working with local government units in developing their areas and setting up tourist facilities, the alliancer will also work hand in hand with the private sector to ask them to pour more investments, she added. (from PNA report)
