MANILA — The Commission on Elections disclosed that all public school teachers who served as Board of Elections Tellers (BETs) in the October 28 barangay elections will be getting additional P300.00.

This, after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the request of the elecion agency to use P150 million from the funds of the midterm polls last May 13.

Although the amount is not that big, Commissioner Grace Padaca said they want to give gratitude to the teachers for always supporting the poll body and the rest of the country by providing their services in the nation’s electoral exercises.

“Happy New Year to our partner teachers! Even after the October 28 barangay elections, we continued to work to be able to add a little more to your P2000-honorarium,” she said in her Facebook account.

Padaca noted that Commissioner Robert Christian Lim, head of the Steering Committee for the May polls, has given instructions to the poll body’s Finance Services Department to prepare the payroll.

More than 500,000 teachers served in the village polls, manned the 170,000 clustered precincts all over the country.

BETs are mandated to conduct the voting and counting of votes in their respective polling precincts, maintain order within the precincts and its premises, and act as deputies of the Comelec in supervising and controlling the conduct of elections. (PNA)
