MANILA, Dec. 18 — A total of only three hundred seventy-seven (377) examinees (283 males and 94 females) passed the highly-competitive PNPA Cadet Admission Test (CAT) held last November 10 in 24 key cities nationwide.
The 377 successful examines represents only 3.4% out of the total 10,966 qualified applicants who took the three-hour examinations which consisted of four parts namely, English & Communications, Mathematics & Science, Abstract and Logical Reasoning and General Information and Current Events.
In its quest for genuine reforms and transformation to improve the quality of graduates, the PNPA administration under Police Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino has increased the recruitment and selection standards starting this year which includes adopting a competency-based predetermined passing score of 60% and with no score below 50% in each of the four parts of the examinations which totaled 200 items.
As part of the PNPA administration’s innovative efforts and pioneering scheme to attract the best and the brightest applicants for PNPA cadetship, for the first time, high school valedictorians and salutatorians as well as college cum laude graduates who are qualified were granted the privilege to be exempted from taking the cadet admission test. A total of 144 honor high school graduates (valedictorians and salutatorians) and honor college graduates (cum laude) have availed of this privilege.

The further testing consists of a psychological and psychiatric examination, physical/medical/dental exams, drug test, physical fitness test, background investigation and a panel interview. The said testing is sequential that is, an applicant who fails in an earlier stage will not be allowed to proceed to the next stage
