Yolanda damage to Bicol agriculture peg at P175M with displacement of 708,464 residents.

The latest update on the damaged wrought on Bicol provinces from the Office of Civil Defense in Legazpi city says that damage to agriculture amounted to an estimate of P175 million with 4,005 farmers were affected.

A total of 708,464 persons, representing 145,059 families, were temprarily displaced by the typhoon which pounded the southern parts of the region, particularly Masbate which experienced storm surges.

Most of the families affected were from Albay, with a reported 145,825 families or 533,673 persons evacuated from risk areas to various refugee centers in the province.

Sorsogon province had 23,551 families or 95,691 persons affected and housed in evacuation sites at the height of the typhoon.

The province of Masbate registered 20,521 persons or 4,501 families affected, with some losing their homes. Camarines Sur had 9,177 families or 42,956 persons displaced.

The province of Catanduanes reported 390 families or 2,563 persons affected while Camarines Norte evacuated 2,317 families with a total of 11,341 individuals.

There are currently 667 families in Masbate who lost their homes who remain in evacuation centers.

In Camarines Sur, storm surges destroyed a total of 279 houses in the municipalities of Sagñay, Presentacion and San Jose.

A mini-tornado that damaged four houses also hit the municipality of Siruma while landslides triggered by heavy rains were reported between the municipalities of Lagonoy and Presentacion in Camarines Sur at the height of the typhoon.

Recorded fatalities include 4 in Masbate and one in Camarines Norte.(from PNA reprt of Danny Calleja)
