Telco restores 75% of Visayas network; 99% in southern Luzon, expands coverage in typhoon-hit areas

One of the major players in the telecommunications providing wireless cellular has put back 75% to its network online.

Globe Telecom on Saturday said 75 percent of its network in Visayas have already been restored amid continuing efforts of the company to fast-track restoration.

Globe has so far restored 90 percent of its network in Cebu and Bohol, 96 percent in Negros Occidental, 97 percent in Negros Oriental, 75 percent in Northern Samar, 76 percent in Iloilo, and 60 percent in Antique.

Expansion of the telco provider’s cellular services in typhoon-affected areas brings the company’s total coverage to 90 percent of its network. About 99 percent of its network in Southern Luzon and 100 percent in Mindanao are now up and running.

In Leyte and Panay islands, Globe has restored a significant number of cell sites, further expanding its cellular service in the typhoon-stricken islands.

The company now has so far restored a total of 16 base stations in Leyte, providing telecommunication services for much-needed relief operations in the island. Cellular service in Leyte island now covers the municipalities of Bato, Hilongos, Inopacan, Matalom and Santa Fe and the cities of Baybay, Ormoc and Tacloban in Leyte province as well as the municipalities of Bontoc, Hinundayan, Libagon, Lilo-an, Macrohon, Malitbog, Padre Burgos, Pintuyan, San Ricardo, Saint Bernard, San Francisco, San Juan, Silago, Sogod and Tomas Oppus, all located in Southern Leyte.

In Panay, Globe has restored additional seven cell sites in the area.

In Aklan, the company’s mobile coverage include the municipalities of Altavas, Banga, Kalibo, Lezo, Malinao, Numancia, Tangalan, Nabas, Malay, Boracay, while in Capiz, towns with cellular services include Ivisan, Tapaz and Roxas City.

In Iloilo, the following municipalities have mobile coverage: Alimodian, Badiangan, Barotac Nuevo, Cabatuan, Calinog, Passi City, Concepcion, Duenas, Dumangas, Guimbal, Igbaras, Janiuay, Lambunao, Leganes, Lemery, Leon, Maasin, Miagao, Mina, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, Pototan, San Enrique, San Joaquin, San Miguel, San Rafael, Santa Barbara, Tigbauan, Tubungan, Zarraga and Iloilo city.

In Antique, Globe telecom’s mobile service now covers the municipalities of Anini-y, Barbaza, Belison, Bugasong, Hamtic, Patnongon, San Jose, San Remigio, Sibalom and Tobias Fornier.

Globe Telecom is also accelerating efforts to restore cellular services in Samar island, which along with Leyte, bore the brunt of the typhoon.
