Albay province to host 10,000 Yolanda survivors from Leyte and Samar

The province of Albay is preparing to accomodate 10,000 individuals or 2,000 families from among the survivors of typhoon Yolanda from Samar and Leyte.

This was known Sunday as governor Joey Sarte Salceda made the announcement, that displaced families will be accommodated in the newly constructed Japan-standard evacuation centers of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office in Barangay Gogon in the city and in the towns of Polangui, Libon, Oas, Sto. Domingo and Manito.

“All basic human amenities are provided in these centers and definitely, we will give the best IDP accommodation the country can ever provide,” Salceda said.

Salceda underscored that an estimate of the United Nations, there are now 2,000,000 homeless individuals due to the typhoon.

The governor said that the provision of shelter of 500,000 units at a cost of P250,000 each, will mean a total of P125 billion.

Salceda said, Albayanos are more than willing to accommodate the displaced families.

Partner agencies include the regional offices disaster reduction council and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

In a related news, on Sunday the province dispatched 23 more truckloads of relief goods for Tacloban city and the rest of Leyte and Samar provinces.

“This is the longest and the biggest convoy of trucks loaded with relief items for Yolanda victims set out for Leyte and Samar,” Salceda said. (from PNA report by Floreño G. Solmirano)
