NDRRMC updates: Yolanda death toll rise to 3,631 dead, 12,487 injured and 1,179 missing

Here is the official tally update on the death count, injuries, damages and destruction brough about by the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda.

According to the official report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a total of 1,962,898 families or 9,073,804 persons were affected in 9,303 barangays in 44 provinces, 536 municipalities, 55 cities of Regions Calabarzon-IVA, Mimaropa-IVB, Bicol-V, Western Visayas-VI, Central Visayas-VII, Eastern Visayas-VIII, Northern MIndanao-X, Davao-XI, and Caraga.

Whether there is a deliberate attempt at concealing the actual number of fatalities wrought by Typhoon Yolanda, the fact will not be hidden for long. “Eastern Samar is gone,” Rep. Ben Evardone of the province lamented yesterday as he sought emergency assistance for his home province. That could mean that the casualty could even rise higher than that shared by a PNP police officer which caught the ire of the Palace, which eventually led to his being given a “timely rest” from his post. Focus should not be given to Tacloban alone but to all areas which up to now have not been reached and surveyed by the government.

Out of the total affected, 397,607 families or 1,871,321 persons were displaced. Of these numberes, served inside evacuation centers now totals 86,889 families or 422,226 persons while uutside evacuation centers accounted for 310,718 families or 1,449,09 persons.

As of 8:00PM November 15, 3,631 individuals were reported dead, 12,487 injured and 1179 are still missing.

The disaster council update in number of damaged houses increased to 273,375 with 153,098 totally damaged and 120,277 partially.

The total cost of damages increased to P9,452,016,222.13 with P362,834,761.13 for infrastructures and P9,089,181,461.00 for agriculture in regions Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas and and Caraga

A total of 155,366 hectares of agricultural land planted with rice (886,192 has), corn (14,207 has) and high value crops (54,967 has) was affected.

Agricultural production losses amount to P2,412,653,276.00 for rice; P226,986,542 for corn, P1,967,979,322.00 for high value crops; P2,079,107,275.00 for livestock, and P1,055,477,436 for fisheries.

Damage to livestock, fishieries and irrigation facilities and infrastructure amounted to P1,346,977,600.00

Due to the the confusion over the death toll from Supertyphoon Yolanda, the disaster council chairman Eduardo del Rosario announced that from now on, figures related to the disaster would only come from “one voice” – the NDRRMC.

Del Rosario came out on a television press briefing and said that all its member agencies have been directed to avoid commenting on the numbers without validation from the council.
