Telcos need to restore service in everal provinces of Eastern Visayas, Bicol and Mimaropa regions.

The National Telecommunications Commission on Saturday said restoration of communication signal in some areas in the Visayas may be delayed due to port operations suspension.

The NTC during Saturday morning’s briefing at the National Risk Reduction Management Council said communication signal in Samar, Leyte and Tacloban are still down as storm surge damaged telecommunication lines in these areas.

Telco company Smart Communications has sent additional teams and equipment to restore signal in Samar and Leyte.

It is expected that restoration work will be delayed since some ports have suspended operations.

NTC said Smart had already restored service in Ormoc City since 9 p.m. Friday.

”Communication in Southern Leyte is also running,” NTC further mentioned. However, signal in Tacloban and Eastern Samar are still down.

On the other hand, NTC reported that Globe Telecom said as of 8 a.m., communication line in Biliran, Eastern Samar and Leyte are completely down; 98 percent in Western Samar and Capiz; 92 percent in Northern Samar; 72 percent in Southern Leyte; 86 percent in Catanduanes; and 67 percent in Romblon.
