The city government of Legazpi is set to put up an P80-million hospital in a 3,000-square-meter site at the reclamation area. Health officials believe the site is conducive to health, being at a prime coastal location and near the city center.

The project will start next year, ahead of the proposed P100-million convention center located at the same area, according to Legazpi city mayor-elect Noel Rosal, husband of outgoing mayor Geraldine Rosal.

The proposed hospital will be a neighbor to the developing commercial area by the bay, a close neighbor to the Embarcadero.

Funding of the proposed hospital project will be shouldered by the city, with a counterpart from the national government.

The city will also shoulder the cost of maintenance and other hospital operating expenses.

Rosal said the Legazpi hospital project will complement the crowded Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, now equipped with sophisticated equipments, that include one for dialysis, and charges lower cost.

“The demand for our own city hospital will finally be realized next year,” he said, adding that “the coastal reclamation area facing the Albay gulf is indeed a most conducive location site.” (From the PNA report of Manilyn Ugalde)
