Masbate Police Intensifies Drive VS Crime

(PNA) – The government drive against crime in Masbate province has intensified and netted wanted persons and loose firearms, a Philippine National Police (PNP) official said on Wednesday.

According to Sr. Supt. Arnold Albis, of the PNP Regional Special Task Group (RSOTG) in Masbate, the ongoing crime drive resulted in the arrest of 1,521 wanted persons and the confiscation of 1,555 loose firearms since the election gun ban was implemented on January 13 this year.

About 13,804 assorted deadly weapons have been confiscated since the crime drive took off, Albis said.

The Provincial Police Investigation and Detection Management unit reported this month alone, 41 firearms were seized, 77 motorcycles were impounded and 17 persons involved in illegal numbers games were arrested.

On the strength of search and arrest warrants issued by the local courts police operatives have been successful in arresting four suspected gun runners and seized from them various kinds of firearms.

Albis said his task group has also intensified tracking operation to deactivate known private armed groups, allegedly employed by local politicians.
