(PNA) – A group of Bicolano divers did their share of cleaning Albay’s marine environment with a seabed clean-up activity off the coastline of Legazpi city. The event was tagged as scubasura which marked the recent observance of the World Water Day.

The drive was spearheaded by the regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environmental Management Bureau (EMB). At least a hundred volunteers, divers and non-divers joined the undertaking that underlined the importance of keeping the marine environment clean.

Divers were ferried out from Legazpi city boulevard by the Naval Forces Southern Luzon to the dive site while the Bicol Scuba Divers Foundation Inc. supplemented manpower.

The EMB earlier conducted simultaneous river and estero cleanup the previous week under its Adopt-a-Estero Program that was readily adopted by local industry operators.

World Water Day was observed last March 22 with the theme “International Year of Water Cooperation.”

The global event was celebrated locally under the theme “Water for All, All for Water”.

Meanwhile, a diver spotted at the bay a short walk from the Embarcadero mall, in this our accompanying photo. The area is a favorite of locals specially at night for that long strolls along the Legazpi boulevard, as the wave cavort with the breakwaters bringing ashore garbage which include discards of plastic containers and wrappers.
