According to the Department of Education, the semestral break which started on October 22nd up to the 25th was extended due to the nationally-declared Eid Ul-Udha holiday.

Eid is the feast of sacrifice for the Muslims observed from October 26th up until Sunday, the 28th. The Filipino Muslim population is concentrated in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao with pockets of communities elsewhere in the country.

While it was vacation for the students, the teachers took advantage of the vacation days in rushing mid-year assessments. Some teachers were made busy fixing related tasks in their respective advisory classrooms.

Classes will be disrupted anew on November 1 and 2 with the observance of All Souls and All Sainst Day in the country.

Side notes: The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia. It is also the only state that observes All Souls and All Saints Day, while the rest of the world celebrate halloween.

With the inclusion of Muslim holidays in the calendar, the country could top the list among nations with many national holidays being observed in a given year.
