One lucky Bicol RTC branch will get the full legal eyes and ears of former Interior secretary Jesse Robredo’s widow soon enough. There are four vacant regional trial courts in the region which includes the Ligao-Albay RTC branch 13, Pili-Camarines Sur branch 32, Calabanga-Camarines Sur, branch 63 and Daet-Camarines Norte branch 40.

A member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) confirmed yesterday (Monday) that Atty. Maria Leonor Gerona-Robredo, now popularly known as Leni Robredo, is one of the shortlisted candidates for either one among the four lower courts in Bicol. Her nomination to the JBC short list was “unanimous,” according to reports attributed to Atty. Jose Mejia, a council member representing the academe.

It must be recalled that the past weeks Robredo and her three children were catapulted into the national media spotlight with much respect, sympathy and admiration when her husband met a fatal plane crash off the waters of Masbate city.

While allies and partymates of the present administration attempted to convince the widow to run in candidacy for a senate seat, in the end Mrs. Robredo declined the offer. Although she is not interested in politics, the social media platform Facebook is abuzz with the movement exhorting the widow to run for a senate seat.

Much earlier, the JBC officially announced Mrs. Robredo as applicant for the position on March 28, 2012. Robredo went through the same normal processes such as interview, and series of physical, psychological and psychiatric examinations.

  2. A national daily carried the story that “she asked the Judicial and Bar Council to consider her for any vacant judgeship in the Quezon City Regional Trial Courts. She withdrew her candidacy (for Bicol RTC post) because she decided to be closer to her children who reside in Quezon City.”
