Calabangueños Worldwide Celebrate Happy Fiesta

Photo by Tony AbalayanFor a few days in every year, residents of Calabanga drop their daily toil to pay homage to the feast day of the Lady of the Porter (Nuestra Señora de la Porteria). Today is the 263rd of such commemorative event.

Residents, tourists and guests converge on a seemingly endless merrymaking in their houses, on the streets, on the review stands, with parades, parties and feasts, in a cacophony of upbeat music. They also listen to forgettable speeches of traditional politicians on the side. After the fiesta, the hard realities of life sinks in just as the last dishes are washed and garbage trashed.

But no matter what, everyone tries to cope with the situation, to have a happy fiesta, in whatever way possible. Put off the worry for tomorrow in the meantime. Happy fiesta to all fellow Calabangueños.
