Cam Sur Brace for Monsoon Rain

Students from Calabanga national high school brave the pelting rain.

The unabated rain experienced in major parts of the Bicol region has caused danger to lives and property of Bicolanos.

In Camarines Sur, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council issued an advisory prompting its municipal counterparts to take appropriate actions in their respective areas.

This was made known after the Philippine atmospheric geophysical and astronomical services administration (PAG ASA) pronounced the prevalence of the north east monsoon or amihan associated with light rains and cooler temperature.

The tail end of a cold front is also affecting some parts of the country including southern Luzon, Visayas and northern Mindanao which explains the outpour in some parts of the region. Prolonged rainy condition may trigger flashfloods and landslide, particularly in coastal and mountainous areas in the province.

Residents near or about the Bicol river basin area were encouraged to take precautionary measures due to possible flooding. Alos, people living in the mountainous and land slide-prone sectors were also notified to evacuate.

Identified as prone to mudslide were Cam Sur towns of Baao, Buhi, Bula, Iriga City, Libmanan, Lupi, Pamplona, San Fernando, Sipocot, Bato, Canaman, Lupi, Milaor, Nabua, Naga City, Pamplona, Pili, Ragay and San Fernando.

Low lying and coastal municipalites of Balatan, Minalabac, Sangay, Caramoan, Lagonoy, Garchitorena and Presentacion were alerted to watch out for flash floods due to the continuous and heavy rainfall.

On Friday, the strong down pour of rain in Calabanga prevailed some residents from venturing out.
