The thirteenth edition of the colorful and now popular “Voyadores festival” was held yesterday at the parochial grounds of Naga Metropolitan Cathedral.
The show of colors and body movements through street dancing was focused on the alternative expression of piety and devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia (Ina) through music and vibrant dancing.
This year, dance participants were representatives from various local government units from the provinces of Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate and Sorsogon. Participants dramatized in choreographed movements the Traslacion and Fluvial Processions.
The street dance festival was an additional attraction to the traditionally and mostly solemn celebration of the Peñafrancia festivities.
It was conceived as a prelude to the actual Fluvial event that unfolds this Saturday, also mainly to portray the journey that “Ina” takes on the shoulders of the Voyadores as she is being transferred from her base in Basilica Minore to the Metropolitan Cathedral (Traslacion).
The male voyadores bear on their shoulders the image of the Virgin through the main thoroughfares of the city.
The event was jointly endorsed and initiated by the city government and the Archdiocese of Caceres and the Development Institute of Bicolano Artists foundation.
