Philpost Issues Peñafrancia Tercentenary Stamps

The Philippine Postal corporation will issue on September 8 commemorative stamps that will mark the Tercentenary of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the Patroness of Bicol region. This was also made possible with the Archdiocese of Caceres’ collaboration.

Devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, also known as “Ina” (mother) are encouraged to patronize and buy the stamps and other philatelic products that will be issued on a limited edition by the Philpost.

The stamps will be made available September 8, 2010 until September 11, 2011. Supporters, enthusiasts and collectors can order the Philpost items which comes on price range from PHP10.00 for stamps; souvenir sheets, PHP40.00; first day issue for PHP50.00 (stamps in special envelopes); folder for PHP500.00 and souvenir frames for PHP5,000.00.

The technical description of the 300 Years of Devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia stamps are as follows: Kind of Issue: Commemorative; Denomination and Quantity: Php7.00 / 160,000 pieces; Date of Issue: September 8, 2010;

Last date of sale: September 9, 2011 (or as stocks allow); Sheet Composition: 40 on (4 x 10); Size: 30 mm x 40 mm.; Souvenir Sheet: Php 28.00/8,500 pieces; Size: 100 mm x 50 mm; Kind of Printing: Litho offset; Paper: Imported Unwatermarked.

The stamps design are identified as (in clockwise) Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, 2009; Image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, 1924; Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, and Our Lady of Peñafrancia Shrine.

Meanwhile, the city of Naga has geared-up for the Tercentenary celebration of the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the region.

The city government is sprucing the city by launching beautification and clean-up drives on thoroughfares and plazas including the replacement of lamp posts around the vicinities of the Naga metropolitan cathedral and the Universidad de Santa Isabel.

The city is also establishing pilgrim and visitor’s assistance centers to ensure safety and comfort of visitors and tourists during the two-week long festivities and celebration which is expected to be the grandest fiesta ever in the region.
