Rizalina Hernandez Bongat, 63

Just three houses from across ours, she lived a full, frugal and celibate life. She spent her most productive years at the Calabanga Central Division Pilot School in barangay San Francisco, on the other side of the twin roads. First as an elementary school teacher and on to various assignments in the same facility of the district until her retirement years.

She will be remembered as a doting aunt to nieces and nephews, the children of her first cousin, the late Mariano. H. Tatel. Together with her sister Eva, she adopted all kids left behind, settled them in her house. She rolled her sleeves in giving the young ones the education they deserve.

On Monday, May 3, the inevitable happened. She succumbed to heart failure triggered by aneurism. She was long battered by the effects of the two diagnosed tumors on her brain. Due to her advanced age the tumors were deemed inoperable, which slowly caused her eyesight to fail. Before that, she endured the pains and constant trips to the hospital for blood transfusions and medications.

She was laid to rest at the municipal cemetery in barangay San Isidro on Saturday, May 8 after a Catholic mass held at the La Porteria parish church. The family requests to pray for the repose of her soul even as they are very thankful and appreciative of the outpouring of sympathy during the time of their bereavement.

Rizalina, born December 30, 1946, was named by her parents after the national hero, Jose Rizal who was executed December 30, 1898 during the Spanish colonial occupation.
