Central School Pupils Win Campus Writing Derby

Beside the gate of the Calabanga central division pilot school is its massive, proud, yet paint-fading marker signage.

I spent my formative grades 1 to 6 elementary years in this school. I remember, in fifth grade I had written my first poem published in the school’s humble publication the “Pilot Light,” at that time would come out of the “press” using the mimeographing machine. Sometimes, copies are smudged with black ink on borders, and yet, still readable. O, that was many years ago, and I didn’t even bother to keep my copy or preserve my first poem.

Fast track today, we are glad to note sixth grade pupil Sharmaine Cortez wins the major award as national champion in copy reading and headline writing in Filipino in the recently concluded national schools press conference held at the city of Tagum in Davao del Norte province last February 22-26.

On the same event, Emmanuel Cuadro grabbed 4rth place in English sports writing. The combined winnings made the Bicol region the proud overall national champion of the event on elementary section. Cortez is the current editor-in-chief, and Cuadro, the sports editor of the Pilot Light.

Fifty two elementary campus writers-delegates from 17 regions of the country attended the writing derby from the overall 3,775 participants which include high school and college levels.

Last year, the pilot school’s Czarina Joy Arevalo won first prize on copy reading in Filipino on the same national competition held in the city of Naga.

This is my post for This is My World. Many thanks to Klaus, Sandy, Wren, Fishing Guy, Louise and Sylvia for hosting this wonderful meme: My World – Tuesday.
